Summary of proposed regulation change:
Currently harvest of grizzly bears along the roadside is permitted throughout the territory. This proposal is intended to enable local prohibitions while ensuring that if a roadside closure is proposed and supported by the community, that the prohibitions would be enacted and enforced in a standardized manner.
Board recommendation:
The Board recommended the Minister accept the proposal.
Status of Board recommendation:
The Minister of Environment accepted the Board’s recommendation.
Outcome in regulation:
This adpative management provision will soon be enacted in legislation (summer 2022) and will be available to come into effect as early as the 2022-2023 hunting season.
