Mandatory Furbearer Harvest Reporting

Summary of proposed regulation change:
Proposing mandatory annual harvest reports for all fur-bearing species harvested. This change would improve harvest data and aid in the management of those species.
- Mandatory licensed trapper reporting for all furbearers harvested on or before April 15 (date is 15 days after close of winter trapping season, and consistent with other harvest reporting requirements related to licensed activities)
- Potential offence for failing to provide harvest information, or providing false or misleading furbearer harvest information
- Issuance of a trapping license is contingent upon submission of harvest reporting for
previous season, if applicable
The Board recommended the Minister accept the proposal.
Status of Board recommendation:
The Minister of Environment accepted the Board’s recommendation.
Outcome in regulation:
Not yet enacted in legislation. No regulation has come into effect.
