We recently attended the final roundtable meeting for the Yukon government’s forthcoming territory-wide wetland policy. There is currently a public comment period ending on December 3, 2021.
Developing a wetland policy began three years ago and has involved several previous roundtable meetings. These meetings have included representatives from governments, boards and councils, and environmental and industry organizations to inform the values and guiding principles of the wetland policy.
The Policy is much awaited, and the Board hopes to see it offer meaningful protection for our valuable wetlands.
We believe that the latest draft presented by YG is heading in the right direction. However, we would like to see some improvements and more tangible commitments included in the final version.
