Public Review of Draft Management Plan for Elk in Yukon (2015)

In upholding its role as the primary instrument of fish and wildlife management in the Yukon, the Yukon Fish and Wildlife Management Board (YFWMB) is now leading the public review of the Draft Management Plan for Elk in the Yukon (2015).  

The public review period for this plan is between September 14, 2015 and October 13, 2015, inclusively.  YFWMB will then consider all comments received, and provide a recommendation to the Minister, Environment Yukon regarding the management plan .

Alex Van Bibber Scholarship (formerly Sharing the Land)

Eligibility criteria:

  • Applicant must be a Yukon resident pursuing post-secondary training in continuing the connection between people and the land

Documents required:

  • Transcript
  • Acceptance letter
  • An essay outlining what significance the Yukon’s wilderness holds for you and what you hope to do to continue sharing the land with fish and wildlife through your educational goals.

Yukon Fish and Wildlife Management Board – Roadside Bear Hunting Proposed Regulation Change

The Board is nearing the completion of our Roadside Bear regulation change review. To date the online survey has yielded over 300 submissions, and the analysis of these submissions and comments is already well underway. If you have not reviewed the background information or completed the survey, the links are below.

We will be hosting a public meeting in Tagish on November 24th, from 7:00-9:00 pm at the Tagish Community Hall,  and in Whitehorse on December 2nd, from 7:00 – 9:00 pm at the Yukon Inn Fireside Room. Members of the Board will be present and available to hear your comments in person and this proposal will be deliberated on the following day at our December Board meeting.

Meeting to Seek Public Input on Roadside Bear Hunting Concerns

The Yukon Fish and Wildlife Management Board (YFWMB) will host a meeting April 15 in order to hear from members of the public about the merits of roadside bear hunting and roadside bear viewing. Members of the YFWMB and Environment Yukon Joint Roadside Working Group will be present. The working group is tasked with developing options to address concerns with the current rules which allow bears to be hunted alongside all Yukon roads.

When: 7 pm Tuesday, April 15th
Where: Kwanlin Dun Culture Centre – Multi Purpose Room
Who: All interested members of the public
