Meeting to Seek Public Input on Roadside Bear Hunting Concerns

Posted on:

The Yukon Fish and Wildlife Management Board (YFWMB) will host a meeting April 15 in order to hear from members of the public about the merits of roadside bear hunting and roadside bear viewing. Members of the YFWMB and Environment Yukon Joint Roadside Working Group will be present. The working group is tasked with developing options to address concerns with the current rules which allow bears to be hunted alongside all Yukon roads.

When: 7 pm Tuesday, April 15th
Where: Kwanlin Dun Culture Centre – Multi Purpose Room
Who: All interested members of the public

In fall 2012, the YFWMB sought public comment on a proposal to prohibit bear hunting along the Atlin Road. Based on what it heard, the board recommended that a complete review of
establishing road corridors for wildlife viewing purposes should take place. The working group was established in June 2013 to lead this review. The comments received at the public meeting will be used by the working group to inform the options to be provided to the Minister of Environment.
